The Second game saw Heslam's Heroes (captained by James ' Kippa' Heslam) play The Presidents Select VII (captained by Chris ' CJ' Jackson). The select VII batted first and could only achieve a par score of 42-2. George Garrott hitting 27 off 21 deliveries was the pick of the batsman. Chris West and Kallum Ward bowled well again with both bowlers only going for 4 runs in their over. In reply Sean 'Showboat' Tidey and Tom ' Big Dogg' Greaves batted intelligently hitting 27 and 32 respectively. Greaves' 32 coming off just 14 balls. Chris Peckett and George Garrott were the pick of the bowlers.
At lunch and after seeing all the sides play, Heslam’s Heroes did look the side to beat. With a strong batting line up and consistent bowlers they looked the best side. Some late transfer activity made them even stronger when Tom Greaves replaced Jim Allsopp.
After a delightful lunch made by The President Howard Marshall, The Preesident’s select VII played the Warriors. Marcus Martin hit 38* in a competitive total of 57-1 from the Select VII's allotted six overs. This score proved to be too bigger challenge for The Warriors as they could only reach a disappointing 47-4. Lewis Fitzgerald and Christian Martin both bowled tightly going for only six in their overs.
The fourth game saw The Bullets play The Heroes. After Skipper James Heslam’s shocking performance with the ball in the first match he decided to don the gloves. This proved to be a great decision when he caught his opposite number off the bowling of the impressive, but inexperienced spinner Sean ‘should open’ Tidey 1-0-2-2. The Bullets Scratched a score of 55-2 which seemed like a getable total. However with Heslam and Ward batting well Heslam decided to retire himself. This proved to be a poor decision as The Heroes fell just 3 runs short. Mitchell Cooper bowled well for The Bullets 1-0-2-0. After 2 games all teams had 2 points making the last two matches effectively semi finals.
Heslams Heroes battled it out against Wardy's Warriors. The wicket had now dried and had a bit more pace to it. Where scores in mid 50s were winning scores earlier in the day, now totals in the 70s became the norm. Heroes batted first and scored a very good 73-1 with all batsmen contributing; S.Tidey (29*), T. Greaves (16) and J.Heslam (26*). Reece Fitzgerald bowled well (1-0-7-0). Ward knew that his team would have to bat quickly to achieve this total so Baz Curtis and Paul Garrott opened for The Warriors. Curtis hit Ward's 'Polish' brother for two sixes from the first two balls of the innings before being cleaned by up on the fourth ball of the over. Only skipper Ward and Curtis could muster their way out of single figures as economical bowling from Chris West (1-0-3-0) and Sean Tidey (1-0-4-1) proved to be the key for the Heroes.
Heslam's Heroes were now through to the final. Who would they meet in the final? The match between the Presidents Select VII and the Bullets would decide final place. The Presidents’ Select VII batted first and reached 72-3 with Captain Chris Jackson And Marcus Martin both scoring twenties. The next top scorer was Extras with 17. The Bullets had no reply and with wickets falling at regular intervals no batsmen really achieved a big score, Marcus J.E.Baker top scored with 13.
So the final saw Heslam's Heroes play The Presidents Select VII. Jackson won the toss and asked The Heroes to bat first. James Heslam played a captain's knock accompanied by the impressive Tom 'Big Dogg' Greaves. Greaves was the first to go for 28. Sean Tidey came and went to a stunning catch by the keeper Jackson. Everyone around the Reed Green was astonished as Jackson dived full length to take a one handed catch. Truley Remarkable. Heslam’s Heroes finished on a decent 67-3. Martin and Jackson again opened the batting, but never really got going against any of the bowlers. Ward 1-0-1-1 had the most impressive figures. The Select VII could only get 37-4 leaving Heslam's Heroes the winners by 30 runs.
After The Game the trophies were awarded to the winning team and The Presidents Cup was awarded to Sean Tidey who scored 57 runs and had figures of 3-0-12-3 in the days play.
A big thank you to everyone who helped throughout the day. It was again a most enjoyable days cricket.
