    Mike Jackson passes away

    It is with deep regret that after a 16 month fight with cancer, Mike Jackson passed away on Friday, June 26th.

    All members of the club would like to pass on their condolences to Chris and Simon and to the rest of Mike's family. He was a familiar face around the club for over 15 years, not just a player, but as a coach, supporter and friend.

    A nightmare weekend, all 4 teams lose

    After some positive results the week before this weekend couldn't have been worse. The 1st XI lost by 5 wickets despite a maiden 1st XI league fifty fro Tom Greaves. The 2nd XI collapsed to 125 all out and lost by 52 runs.

    The 3rd XI lost by 100 runs and the 4th XI lost by 4 wickets to table topping Hertford despite skipper Peter Baker's 60.

    Smith sees 2nd XI to important victory

    The 2nd XI got back to winning ways, but only just. Stuart Smith saw them home with a fine 72 not out and a 3 wicket win.

    James Heslam and Chris Jackson both scored tons as the 1st XI beat Bishop Stortford II by 92 runs.

    The 3rd XI lost by 6 wickets despite a 50 from Mitchell Cooper. The 4th XI won yet again thanks to an amazing spell of 2-4 in 10 overs from Matt Giblin and 52 from Paul Garrott.

    National Village Cup disappointment

    Reed were looking to retain the Herts and Beds regional crown against Langleybury on Sunday, but came up short.

    Despite a decent fielding display and a strong last couple of overs, with only 3 runs coming from the twelve balls, the hosts were set 202 to win.

    Despite good knocks from Chris Jackson, James Heslam and Stuart Smith, Reed were bowled out for 129 and Langleybury now go through the the national stage.

    What a difference 3 wickets can make

    The 3rd XI bounced back from last weeks disappointment to claim a 99 run win. Fifties from William Heslam and Richard Robertson helped them on their way.

    The 1st XI just couldn't take that last wicket against Flitwick to claim all 30 points despite a six wicket haul from Skipper Bernie Morss. The 4th XI had the same frustration, but this time it was the last 2 wickets.

    The 2nd XI slumped to an 8 wicket home defeat.

    4th XI win again. Mixed results for the rest

    Ian Roberts hit a vital 33 in a 10th wicket partnership with
    Kieran Willoughby that helped the 4th XI to a 36 run win over Langleybury IV.

    Despite 98 not out from Chris Jackson, 70 from Phil Freney and 4 wickets from Graham Wilson the 1st XI could only draw.

    The 2nd XI had another miserable weekend with an 8 wicket defeat. The 3rd XI also lost and will be disappointed to fall just 3 runs shorts.

    Records tumble as Baker smashes 175

    Marcus Baker scored a record Division 14 total of 175 and with John Kershaw put on 188 in just 17 overs for the 2nd wicket. Jason Pallett followed up with the ball taking 4 wickets and the 4th XI won by 189 runs.

    Defeat for the 1st and 2nd XI, but the 3rd XI had a comfortable 10 wicket win over North Mymms IV.

    Frustrating weekend with 3 draws and a win

    It was a frustrating weekend all round with only the 2nd XI getting a victory. James Heslam continued his rich form with 149 not out as the 1st XI posted a challenging 264. They managed 8 wickets in return.

    Records tumbled for the the 4th XI as John Kershaw and Paul Garrott put on 121 for the 3rd wicket, but couldn't take the 3 wickets they needed to get the win.

    The 2nd XI did manage the full 30 points with a 4 wicket win at Hemel Hempstead. While the 3rd fell just 2 wickets short of a win despite scoring 223-4.

    4th XI in debut win. 1st XI win again

    The 4th XI made their debut in the Herts League with fine 75 run victory. Alan Ward scored 75 and a five wicket haul from Alex West saw them to their first 30 pointer.

    The 1st XI continued where they left off the week before with an easy win over Ampthill. Graham Wilson again in the wickets and 60 not out from James Heslam.

    The 2nd XI fought hard to hold on for a draw against Welwyn Garden City and the 3rd XI suffered their first defeat at the hands of Knebworth Park.

    Three teams, three nine wicket wins

    All 3 teams won by 9 wickets to bring home a full 90 point haul. The 1st XI bowled out Kings Langley for just 91 and knocked them off in just 20 overs.

    The 2nd XI were helped by inform Graham Wilson taking 6 wickets and then knocked off the 144 required with little trouble.

    The 3rd XI continued their fine start to the season and have 60 points in the bag. They chased 124 and like the other two teams got home with 9 wickets in hand.

    Reed pass first Village Cup test

    Fifties from Stuart Smith and Phil Freney put Reed on track for a comfortable victory against Biddenham. The regional holders posted a challenging 246-5 in their 40 overs.

    Lee Johnson removed the top 4 leaving Biddenham an uphill challenge. The other bowlers kept the pressure on and restricted the home side to 138-8.
